What is The Venture Operating System?
We; the architects of ventures and entrepreneurial endeavors have been misguided. Unintentionally, yes but misguided all the same. We have faithfully deployed the tools designed to manage conventional business to build our unconventional businesses. We have deployed the play-book designed for business-as-usual to build business unusual. We have installed the operating system for the established in our unestablished environments.
To overly simplify it there are two sides of the tracks; The Haves and The Have-Not’s (pun unintended).
If you can see the tracks, if you know the formula, if you’ve proved A plus B equals C and have reached that state of repeatable results and profitability. Then you are in the Haves zone. You will do ok with conventional polished business tools if you seek to keep cloning your efforts.
However…
If the tracks are unseen, if it’s all thicket and fog, if the way is not clear nor cleared. If you are floundering, freefalling, not quite figured it out, not quite profitable, not quite making it! Then you are in the Have-Not’s zone. You are yet to prove your D + E = F. You have more hypotheses than facts. More borrowing, less profiting. More conundrum, less clarity.
You need different kinds of choices, different tools, different ways of working. You need the Venture Operating System. The Venture OS is the toolset, skillset, mindset for those venturing in the Have-Not’s Zone.

The Essence
We start deep in the soil; with the founder, the guardian of the garden, the architect of the vision. It’s not about the product or the business. This is the introspection, the preparation of the soil, the parenting pre-check. This is about the ability to carry an entity to full term. If you are a founder, this is the place where you ask yourself: Am I Good Soil? And if not, what do I need to do to become good soil. This is the difference between victory and victimry. The genetic encoding from which everything else flows.
The Existence
This is where it gets real-real. Birthing vision into reality, concept into concrete, the ethereal into material. This is the place where you become a solution to someone’s need, a key to someone’s lock. This is the part where you discern the need and design the solve in response. You take them by the hand and lead them to a place so much better, so very different that they deem you worthy of their finite resources- they deem you value-able. Through a process we call Job-Centered Value Design. You make value tangible.
The Entity
You’ve engineered an idea into a solution. Great, you are partially there. The solution gives you the right to play, but not the right to win. Now it’s time to engineer a great organization to wrap around that great solution. For like an engine; your solution is valuable yet incapable of thriving on its own without a body. You don’t ride the engine, you drive the car. This is where you wrap your solution in a suit of systems, structures, and processes. The the dynamism, that breathes, moves, and lives in the real world. Your business model.
